Get ready for a secure and festive holiday season in Jakarta! With a massive deployment of 5,044 personnel, the Metro Jaya Police are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a safe Christmas and New Year celebration. But here's where it gets controversial: some argue that this level of security is excessive, while others believe it's a necessary measure to protect the public.
The security force includes a mix of National Police, military troops, and government personnel, all working together to safeguard the city. And it's not just about numbers; the police have strategically enhanced security at places of worship, especially churches, which are considered high-priority locations.
"We've implemented enhanced security measures at 14 churches across Jakarta, ensuring that our personnel are prepared and facilities are in place," says Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri.
But it's not just about church security. The Metro Jaya Police have also set up security posts at key transportation hubs, like Gambir Station and the Cikunir Interchange, to monitor vehicle traffic and ensure passenger safety.
"With an expected increase in train travel during the holidays, we want to make sure that our stations are safe and ready to serve the public," Suheri adds.
And this is the part most people miss: the police are also keeping a close eye on vehicle traffic exiting Jakarta. With over 477,000 vehicles leaving the city in the past three days alone, the police are anticipating heightened public mobility and are taking steps to manage it.
The Metro Jaya Police are committed to providing optimal services and ensuring a safe, orderly, and smooth celebration. "Our 110 call center is always available to assist the public," Suheri assures.
So, as you celebrate the holidays in Jakarta, remember that the police are working hard to keep you safe. But what do you think? Is this level of security necessary, or is it an overreaction? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
