A mother's holiday nightmare at Butlin's Bognor has sparked a heated debate.
Imagine a family's excitement as they plan a much-needed break at a renowned holiday resort, only to be met with a series of unpleasant surprises. Stained bed linen, peeling furniture, and an odour so strong it resembled vomit - this is not the relaxing getaway anyone would envision.
Our anonymous mum, along with her twin sister and their respective children, had high hopes for their four-night stay at Butlin's in Bognor Regis. However, their dreams were quickly shattered by the reality of their accommodation.
"I trusted Butlin's as a British brand, but the standard of the room was unacceptable," the 41-year-old mum from Brighton shared.
Holes in the walls, broken doors, and stains everywhere - it seemed like a battle had taken place in their room. And that's not all; a drip tray behind the fridge, full of rotting milk, was the source of the nauseating smell.
But the worst was yet to come. The mum discovered mould marks and stains on her son's bed linen, a devastating find for a child with learning disabilities.
"I work hard for my money, and I expected better from a branded hotel," she said.
The family's woes began on their first day, and after complaining, they were moved to a new room - in the pouring rain. But the issues persisted, and on the Sunday, they decided to cut their losses and leave a day early.
Butlin's has offered a partial refund, covering accommodation, dining, and missed activities, but the mum believes she is owed the full amount.
"I'm still fighting for the rest of the refund. It's not right that we should have to accept less than what we paid for," she stated.
A Butlin's spokesperson has apologized, stating, "This is not the standard we expect, and we moved the family to different accommodation as soon as we were made aware."
But the question remains: Is a partial refund enough for such a disappointing experience?
