On a Tuesday evening at the DY Patil Stadium, Soni, batting at No. 6, struggled to find her rhythm. With just 11 runs off 14 balls and no boundaries, the Gujarat Giants made a bold move, retiring her out at the end of the 16th over. This decision, a rare occurrence in women's cricket, has left many fans and analysts questioning the strategy.
"It's a tough call, but sometimes you've got to make those decisions," said Michael Klinger, the head coach of the Giants. He explained that with a strong hitter like Bharti Fulmali waiting in the wings, and knowing the team's batting potential, they aimed for a score of around 190. However, the incident didn't end there. Fulmali, who replaced Soni, was given out lbw twice in her first two balls, only to be saved by successful reviews.
